Established in March 2007 this program was founded in honor of a young man who despite huge battles with medical tragedies, kept true to his academic goals and dreams. He continued to prosper and persevere by surrounding himself with the necessary support of individuals who would not let him lose heart. He found that continuing to learn and grow was one thing he COULD make his own choice about. Achieving in school kept him connected to a very important aspect of life called HOPE.
Kelly graduated with honors from West Valley High School in June 2005 and attending college through the Fall of 2006. He lost his almost 4 year battle with pediatric bone cancer on March 6, 2007, just one month short of his 20th birthday.
FOUNDATION MISSION & LONG TERM GOALS:
A two component program which focuses on both keeping students motivated to stay in school while they battle their illnesses, as well as rewarding them when they achieve major milestones in their academic progress, including opportunities for college scholarships. Within these two program components will also be the inclusion of information on resources and networking connections for students and families to find the extra help and encouragement they need to keep progressing towards their maximized and greatest potential. We have begun by serving students in Shasta & Tehama Counties and will hopefully grow to cover all of Northern California as resources and manpower allow.
FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS OF JUNE 2007:
• 2 High School Graduates have been awarded the "Honors in the Face of
Adversity" Scholarship, $500 each for their 2007-2008 college year:
- Miss Brittany M. Williams of Shasta High School
- Mr. William F. Levy of Foothill High School
