Rowell Family Empowerment of Northern California, Inc. was founded in 1995 by parents, we are a parent-run organization specifically funded (mostly by state grants & contracts) to provide direct services to families with children and adults with disabilities. A child/individual may have a diagnosis, may be at risk, or the parents may be concerned and would like to seek an evaluation. Whatever the reason, we provide guidance to families who may not be familiar with the special education system, community navigation or related services. We do this through providing support, training, and parent consultation services such as:
You can do this! We know because most of us have children with disabilities just like you. That's the BIG difference between Rowell and other agencies. We don't sympathize, we empathize. We are parents supporting parents along their journey. We're not on the outside looking in - we're on the inside with you!
We find that many people, especially parents of newly-diagnosed children, are unaware of how to navigate the special education process, the required documents, and even the rights of their child among other things. We aim to empower them by equipping them with knowledge so they can be the best advocate for their child and their individual family needs!
Janeth moved to Redding when she was 13 from the Bay Area. She the second oldest of seven kids and from a young age she has helped translate for her mom. Janeth previously worked as a CNA for 4 years before she started to learn about Rowell which then led her to work for her sister, Jasmin, as well as caring for other adults with disabilities who she has grown close with them and their families. She has always found myself wanting to help people so she’s happy to be able to continue with that here at Rowell. Outside of everything, Janeth enjoys trying new foods, whether that be cooking at home or trying a new restaurant. She loves to go thrifting and being on the hunt for good pieces to be re-loved. Her all-time favorite pastime is to just be at home watching musicals and singing her heart out on the couch.
