Parents, join us for this FREE training and learn about all aspects of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process! The IEP document may seem big and complicated, but once you start to understand it and learn about the applicable laws you’ll feel more comfortable and empowered while advocating for your student.Our experienced trainers will tell you what to expect during an IEP Meeting. You will learn about the document itself and how you can use it as a tool for planning your student’s education. You’ll be prepared for that next IEP meeting like never before!

The Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a document for support of your child with special needs from infancy up until their third birthday. The IFSP focuses on your child and family and the services your family needs to help enhance the development of your child.

 

At age 3 your child transitions from an IFSP to an IEP (Individualized Education Program). The two documents are quite different and perhaps you aren’t sure what to expect. We got you covered!

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. In other words, if your child needs help in school then a 504 plan may be exactly the thing to get him on track!Many students have conditions or disorders that are not readily apparent to others. We’ll tell you what you need to know about Section 504 and how you can use it as a tool for assisting your child’s education.

What does that behavior mean?
Children communicate through behavior. Sometimes it is difficult to know what they are saying, however, there are things to look for when times get difficult. Learn about interventions that can help you and your child in your home or at school. Behavior Training Part 1 is the first step to helping you stop the behaviors that keep you from everyday activities and that feeling of “normal”.

You’ll learn about the essential ingredients of successful behavior plans and how to be an active participant in writing the plan. Our experienced trainers will teach you how to use it as a truly positive tool for changing negative behaviors and opening the door to achievement.

This is the first in a series of 3 trainings. In this training participants will learn about special education law as it pertains to transition, teaching and supporting youth through the transition process, and providing strategies and tools to promote parent, youth and professional collaboration paving the pathway for youth to become active participants in their future plans.
This is the second in a series of 3 trainings. In this training participants will learn about special education law as it pertains to transition. In addition the training will cover:
  • Transition goals and how they relate to courses of study
  • Difference between a certificate of completion and a diploma
  • Understanding the differences between high school and college
  • Alternatives to college, including vocational training programs, internships, and volunteer opportunities.

This is the third in a series of 3 trainings. In this training participants will learn about the movement from the Transition IEP into the world of adult services. This training covers topics such as:

  • Other agencies: Social Security, CA Children’s Services, Regional Center, In-Home Support Services, Dept. of Rehabilitation, and more
  • Employment/volunteer/community involvement
  • Independent living and/or living arrangements
  • CA Independent Living Centers
  • Registration for military, voting, jury duty
  • Conservatorship

Evaluation reports can be difficult to understand. And each person may write up the results in a different manner. In this training we’ll show you examples of many common evaluations and we’ll point out the key areas you should be focusing on. Our experienced trainers will also discuss which areas of your child’s development can be evaluated, why evaluations are needed, the timelines involved, and more.
This training explores the different perspectives and experiences of students, teachers, and parents regarding the student-led IEP process. Student involvement has been advocated for years, however teachers still feel overwhelmed, students unclear about what to do, and parents unaware of the benefits. You will leave this training inspired and energized, with evidence-based strategies that engage all participants toward bringing the team together.
